Notice of Positive COVID-19 Case in the Greenup County School District - 10.16.20
On October 16, 2020, the Greenup County School District was notified by the Greenup County Health Department that a teacher at Wurtland Middle School and two students (one at WMS and one at GCHS) had tested positive for COVID-19.
We immediately began working closely with the health department to identify students and staff that may have had direct exposure to the student. Direct exposure is defined as contact with a positive case for longer than 10 minutes at a distance of six feet or less. Those that have been identified through contact tracing by the GCHD are being notified.
The persons who tested positive for COVID-19 are currently in quarantine and will not return to in-person instruction until released by the Greenup County Health Department. Students/staff that were within direct exposure will also remain at home on NTI until quarantine is complete.
Our custodial and maintenance staff will take extra time this weekend to devote to our facilities. Both WMS and GCHS will be deeply cleaned and sanitized with an electrostatic sprayer.
We will continue to remain in close contact with the Greenup County Health Department and provide updates as we receive more information.
We encourage our entire Musketeer community to continue following recommended public health guidelines, including wearing a mask, frequent hand washing, and maintaining a social distance whenever possible. Please be aware of any symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Additional symptoms may include runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lack of appetite, loss of smell and taste, diarrhea, headache and body aches. If these symptoms develop, please self-isolate your child and contact the health department.
We must all work together to curb the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We hope that we can reduce cases by moving to the A/B Hybrid Schedule for grades 6-12 beginning October 19, as all of our cases have been at the secondary level. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Greenup County Health Department at 606.473.9838.Take proper precautions and take care of each other, Musketeers.
