Gifted and Talented Program

In accordance with state regulations, Greenup County Schools define gifted and talented students as a category of exceptional children. Gifted and talented students in grades K-12 are those identified as possessing demonstrated or potential ability to perform at an exceptionally high level in one or more of the following areas:

· General Intellectual Aptitude
· Specific Academic Aptitude
· Creativity
· Leadership
· Visual and Performing Arts
Students in the primary program (P1-P4) who display gifted or talented characteristics are informally nominated for the Primary Talent Pool.
Students in grades four through twelve (4-12) are formally identified for participation in the District’s Gifted and Talented program.

Articulated services that are qualitatively differentiated to meet individual needs are outlined in the Gifted Student Service Plan (GSSP). A GSSP is developed annually for all formally identified students in grades 4-12 and serves as the communication vehicle between the parents and school personnel. The Gifted Students Service Plan outlines area(s) of identification and service options that will be utilized to meet individual student needs.
