GCSD COVID Pandemic Operation Plan 2021-2022

Greenup County School District intends to provide daily, safe, high quality instruction for all students and staff members. This school year will again present the district with obstacles to navigate through, as COVID-19 variants continue to  spread. The guidelines below meet Kentucky Board of Education requirements, match CDC recommendations, and align with the guidance of the local health department.

Mitigation Strategies for In-Person Instruction:

  • Spacing of 3 feet for students will occur wherever possible.

  • Disinfection tools will be used to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for all students and staff. Cleaning and sanitizing will occur between class changes, throughout the day, and on buses, just as we did successfully last spring.

  • Signage throughout the buildings will guide social distancing and mitigation  strategies.

  • No touch water bottle filling stations will be open for students to use instead of a water fountain.

  • Outdoor learning and lunches will be encouraged whenever possible.

  • Face Coverings on the school bus are REQUIRED to meet federal guidelines.

  • While inside of buildings, face coverings for students and staff are REQUIRED to keep our students safe from quarantine and exposure to COVID-19. Students can have mask breaks when eating, participating in aerobic exercise, and of course any time they are outside. Our decision for masking will coincide with the KY Incidence Map.

High (Red) >25 cases per 100,000 population

Substantial (Orange) >10-25 cases per 100,000 population

Moderate (Yellow) >1-10 cases per 100,000 population

Low (Green) Less than 1 case per 100,000 population

Exposure Protocols:

  • A full time nurse will be available to students at each school. KDMC Nurse Practitioner will also be on call for on-site appointments for those who have returned permission forms.

  • We HIGHLY Encourage vaccination for anyone eligible and we plan to host multiple vaccination clinics for those interested. Students and staff who are vaccinated will not be required to quarantine unless they begin to show symptoms.

  • Students and staff who are not vaccinated will follow the same protocols from spring, including quarantine and remote learning

  • Google classrooms will be set up for students who are in quarantine and recovering at home to prevent learning loss.

  • The Greenup County Health Department has the final say in all quarantine situations.

  • We are reviewing a Voluntary Test to Stay option for staff and students. More information will be released once a process has been selected and vetted.

We plan to continually re-evaluate our protocols so that we can provide in-person instruction to all students the entire school year. As we have learned since March 2019, every situation can be unique and change. We truly appreciate the support and confidence you give our schools to have a successful in-person instructional year for the 2021-2022 school year.
