A SPECIAL RETIREMENT
Goodbyes are never easy, but this one was particularly difficult. Our dear kitchen manager, Mrs. Jennifer Martin, worked her last day yesterday before entering retirement. Jennifer, we ALL love you! THANK YOU will never be enough! ❤️

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE WILDCATS

PICTURE RETAKE DAY IS COMING!
NOVEMBER 3, 2023

BREAKING NEWS FROM WILDCAT COUNTRY! This morning, we are a proud bunch of Wurtland Wildcats! Last year's state assessment scores are now public, and our school's overall score rose by 20.3 points, giving us a final rating of green according to the state's color-based rating system. Out of over 317 middle schools in the Commonwealth, we are number 95, moving up from number 242. Our overall score is 66.9, giving us the highest score in the Greenup County School District! We are proud of our students, and we are proud of our faculty and staff! Stay tuned for updates throughout the day! We have a fun-filled day planned for everyone! IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A WILDCAT!

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK
EdRising students have been hard at work making some Velcro busy books for our little friends at the elementary school. Cutting, laminating, cutting some more, binding, and adding Velcro can be tedious work. We are happy to help lighten the load for our neighbors!

LEARNING IS ELECTRIC AT WMS
Today, State Electric Supply Co. brought their training kits and taught gifted students in the class of Mrs. Miruka Williams how to install push buttons and pilot lights. Students also learned how to complete a circuit using push buttons and pilot lights. Special thanks to State Electric Supply Co. and their product specialists, Ryan Williams and Brett Newland. They will be returning in the near future to work with other groups of students!

MATHEMATICS PUMPKIN LAB
Every year, students in Mr. DuDomaine's mathematics classes complete a lab using pumpkins. The task involves measuring circumference, counting seeds, determining correlations, lots of fun, and a taste of Spooky Season! 🎃

BIG NEWS! NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER CLASSROOM WILDLIFE SERIES
At Wurtland Middle School, we are so excited to share that we have been chosen by National Geographic as one of only ten schools in the country to participate in the Explorer Classroom Wildlife Series.
What does this mean? Each week, our students will be participating with National Geographic Explorers as they study carnivores, birds, elephants, and so much more! We're leading the way at Wurtland Middle School, and we can't wait to partner with National Geographic!

SEVENTH-GRADE ELA BOOK PROJECTS
Students completed their first book projects of the school year. Students were given creative freedom to represent any parts of their books that they chose. Look at their excellent work!
