MURDER IN THE MANOR: A NIGHT OF MAYHEM A WURTLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL DRAMA PERFORMANCE MAY 8, 2025 $10.00 6:00 P.M. DOORS OPEN AT 5:30 P.M. Please join us for our spring drama performance, a murder mystery and dinner theatre experience. Our Hospitality and Tourism have worked to prepare a special menu for the evening: spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, and a drink. This meal will be provided with the cost of admission. A PERFORMANCE PREVIEW The wealthy and powerful patriarch of the family has died, and her relatives have gathered at her grand estate for the long-awaited reading of her will. With fortunes at stake, tensions run high as greedy heirs, estranged relatives, and suspicious staff all await their shares of the inheritance. But as the will is about to be revealed, chaos erupts—someone in the mansion isn’t who they claim to be. What will happen on this night of mayhem when murder occurs in the manor? Join our drama students on the hunt for this family's true criminal.

EdRISING Our EdRising students have been working hard on new bulletin boards.  One group made an interactive dinosaur-themed coloring bulletin board.  The other, near the fitness center, shared tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a touch of St. Patrick's Day.  We love to see our students taking ownership in their learning environment!

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM This week, students in our Hospitality and Tourism class have been working hard to perfect their pasta salad recipe. From cutting the vegetables to cooking the noodles, the students completed the entire process. After a few taste tests, they generously donated the remaining pasta salad to Meals on Wheels for this week's deliveries. We are so proud of our Wildcats!

MOON PHASES AND ECLIPSE LAB Last week, students in Mr. Haywood's science classes explored the phases of the moon and eclipses through a hands-on learning activity. This lab allowed students to gain new perspectives and experience some science class fun!

MEN OF TOMORROW Last week, our Wurtland Middle School Men of Tomorrow were treated to a presentation from Officer Gollihue on decision-making future planning.  Students engaged in an honest and lively discussion, answering questions and sharing life experiences.  Following this discussion, students explored vehicle maintenance, covering oil checks and the components of an engine bay.  The students reflected on their experiences and agreed that both sessions provided practical life skills. We are so proud of these Wildcats!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK Mrs. Bobbi Brumfield shares that Keaghan helps in the classroom without being prompted. He returns any books or ChromeBooks that have not been returned to proper locations. He also updates the date on the agenda board each day. Way to be a leader, Keaghan!

TEXT FEATURE SURGERY Students became skilled surgeons as they performed life-saving operations through dissecting text features of magazines. Each "patient" presented a set of symptoms, and students had to carefully identify the correct text feature(s) to develop the cure. Thanks to their hard work and sharp reading skills, every patient made a full recovery!

DIGITAL MEDIA Students in Mrs. Vanover's Digital Media class have been exploring some amazingly creative avenues! They recently created clay sculptures and used them to develop stop-motion videos. Wow! This looks like some major fun!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK Mr. Scott Bowling shares that Natasha is deserving of Wildcat of the Week for "rocking" her most recent science test. Mr. Bowling shares that he is so very proud of both her effort and determination. Great work, Natasha!

BOYS BASKETBALL HONORS Please help us to congratulate two members of our boys basketball team who received regional conference and tournament honors. CONGRATULATIONS to Hunter Yates! Hunter was named to the eighth-grade all-conference tournament team! CONGRATULATIONS to Trenton Keeton! Trenton was named to the eighth-grade all-tournament team! We are so incredibly proud of these Wildcats and their efforts throughout the season!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR GREENUP COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER PRACTICE Today's (2.20.25) practice time has been moved from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Practice will conclude at 9:00 p.m. Additionally, please note the Remind code for middle school soccer. Musketeers, many areas still have icy roads that are not ready for school buses or student drivers. The forecast shows another round of snow this evening. Please stay safe and warm. #BelieveInGC

Our team started traveling roads at 3 am to make this tough decision. We were hopeful the forecast would be incorrect because we prefer seeing our students in school. For safety, we must close. Please stay safe today as the accumulations are predicted to increase. #BelieveInGC

NATIONAL SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER APPRECIATION DAY Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and we are so incredibly thankful for Officer Elliott Gollihue! Officer Gollihue goes above and beyond to support our school community each day!

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK Recently, a student dropped both cereal and milk into the floor during breakfast in the cafeteria. The student was very upset because of this accident. Mrs. Stefanie Tucker shares that Carter saw what happened and, without hesitation, he went to get the student another cup of cereal. Thank you for being so kind and generous, Carter!

PASTA PERFECTION Our Hospitality and Tourism students are continuing to build their culinary skills each day! This week, they have continued to learn about responsible uses of knives. They have peeled and chopped vegetables, meats, and cheeses in preparation for a delicious pasta salad. We are cookin' at Wurtland Middle School!
