HEALTH SCIENCES Students in Mrs. Dornon's health sciences class spent time in the fitness center. Students were checking heart and respiration rates using both weightlifting and cardiovascular exercises. Students are currently working through a cardiovascular unit.

STEM CLASS Students in Mr. Haywood's STEM class recently spent time working through an activity using popcorn and coffee filters. It looks both tasty and engaging!

EdRising on the Road Our EdRising students were back on the road yesterday. A handful of students were able to visit Smith Hall on Marshall University's campus, home to the Marshall Speech and Hearing Center! Students were given a tour of the facility and equipment and, then, were privileged with observing therapy sessions. They were able to view a therapy session working with a patient with aphasia, a pediatric language evaluation, a pediatric session on articulation, and an adult evaluation. Our students are so thankful for the opportunity to see speech and language services in action. Special thanks to Mrs. Sarah Clemins and Ms. Miranda for accommodating our Wildcats! Go, Herd! 💚🤍🖤

SEVENTH-GRADE SCIENCE Students in seventh-grade science classes have been working to review food webs and energy pyramids. Students have been using animal crackers to create their own ecosystems. This looks like some fun and engaging learning!

EdRISING Color us happy to have a new interactive bulletin board in our upstairs stairwell. We owe a special note of thanks to Evan, Brianna, and Jade for this aquatic activity! We look forward to seeing it colored in a little more each day.

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK Mrs. Renee White shares that Noah was in the EdRising class last week when she was recently a guest speaker. She challenged Noah's class to befriend peers who may be complex communicators (those who use multiple modes to communicate). Since this challenge, Noah has shown so much compassion towards a younger student who uses a speech-generating device to communicate with others. Noah has had conversations with this student every day and has been a good friend to him. Noah has accepted his new friend's differences and has made this student feel very included at Wurtland Middle School. Wow! We are so incredibly proud of you, Noah!

READER OF THE WEEK Mr. Yancey shares that Zoey has recently shown an interest in reading during class. She has been stepping up and volunteering to read in front of the class without even being asked! READERS ARE LEADERS AT WURTLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL!

COLLEAGUE CREDIT Mr. Nick Yancey shares that Officer Gollihue constantly works to interact and build positive relationships with students. He has worked to contribute to our building's positive culture through the integration of the #RACK initiative. Thank you, SRO Gollihue!

ON THE HOMEMADE SIDE Isaac Branam did a great job of making homemade macaroni and cheese in Mrs. Shannon's Hospitality and Tourism class. It was described as being, "Oh, so yummy!" Isaac did a phenomenal job!

WRITER OF THE WEEK Mrs. Brumfield shares that Eric recently worked very hard to master and use a brainstorming and organizing strategy for on-demand writing. Outstanding work, Eric! Eric is doing things WRITE at Wurtland Middle School!

HOT WHEELS IN SCIENCE CLASS? Students in Mr. Haywood's science classes used Hot Wheels to explore force and motion, working to test Newton's Third Law. Learning is IN MOTION at Wurtland Middle School!

EdRISING We're so LUCKY to have Graci Maynard, Mira Whitehead, and Jaylynn Clapper. These young ladies created a perfect seasonal bulletin board! Great work, Wildcats!

READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY (PART TWO) Students in the classes of Mrs. Long and Ms. Williams read with their book buddies for Read Across America Day. They were able to choose books in which they were interested in reading and found cozy places to read with each other. They took turns practicing their reading while making new friends at the same time.

READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK On Friday, students in the classes of Ms. Katie Williams visited our friends at Wurtland Elementary to read books in celebration of Read Across America Week. Everyone had so much fun, and we have more to share! READERS ARE LEADERS AT WURTLAND MIDDLE!

DRAMA CLUB CREATIVITY This week, students in our drama club have been working hard to create props for their upcoming play, "Fast Food". Students have loved being part of the creative process, ranging from creating their own restaurant logo to choosing the play's primary colors.

FISHING FOR WORD PROBLEMS This week, students in the classes of Mrs. Logsdon went fishin'! They caught fish with word problems and had to solve coordinating mathematical equations. This is an excellent example of hands-on learning at Wurtland Middle School!

BULLETIN BOARD BASKETBALL A few of our EdRising students, Khloe Bertram, Braylon Chandley, and Jacob Jones, worked hard on this fun and interactive bulletin board! Our students enjoy playing in the morning and between classes.

HELPDESK ON THE JOB Our helpdesk students are on the job EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. No matter the issue that is brought to their attention, they work to address it. Take a look at these ChromeBooks that are being returned to Wurtland Elementary School with personalized notes of successful repairs. We are so proud of our Wildcats!
