Our agriculture students have been hard at work in their collaboration with Farming Now, one of our new community partners. Lettuce is sprouting, and students are learning!
CHARACTER SORTING
Students in the classes of Mrs. Long worked on identifying the protagonist and antagonist in a story. First, they sorted characters from familiar movies into two separate piles. Then, each group created brackets to discuss which of the characters were the best protagonists and antagonists. Every student in their group had to agree on the winners, and they had to provide evidence to support their answers. They had many great discussions!

This is a reminder of the morning traffic pattern. The changes this year are not significant; however, students cannot be dropped off in the bus lane or any other location beyond that which is noted.

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Brumfield shares that Bennie works hard and shows respect for his teachers and classmates. He is always willing to help and to do what is asked of him.
READER OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Long shares that she has been very impressed with how much Carter has read since the beginning of the school year. Every day, he asks her to go to the library during FLEX because he has read another book.

COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Ms. Katie Williams shares that Mrs. Amy Shaffer is the kindest soul and is Wurtland's top fan. She makes sure every child has everything he or she needs both in and out of school. She is discreet in all she does, and everyone who has an encounter with her leaves feeling encouraged and loved. Our students and their families are blessed to have her. Woot!

Last week, our EdRising students went on an oceanic adventure with our friends at WES! 🏴☠️🌊
I SCREAM. YOU SCREAM. WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!
In Mrs. Logsdon's class, after discussing phase changes and how liquids turn to solids, students made homemade vanilla ice cream to see the process in action, and, as you might note, it was a huge success! Exciting!
PRINCIPLES of ENGINEERING
Last week in Mr. Haywood's elective class, students practiced skilled versus unskilled building, using decks of cards and applying basic engineering principles.
HOSPITALITY and TOURISM
Last week, in continuing the student-led cooking series, Miss Brooklyn Clifton showed Mrs. Shannon's class how to make cherry poke cake. The class was so excited, and the reviewers agreed that it was delicious! Way to go, Brooklyn!
APP LAB This week, students in the classes of Mrs. Miruka Williams were exploring App Lab and its available features. Through App Lab, students learned how to make their apps interactive. They also learned how to use images and sounds to make apps more appealing. Congratulations to Huner, Jerry, and Nathan! These young men finished all of the levels in one day (that normally take three days).
HALLOWEEN COSTUME DAY
Spooky Season is upon us! Students will be permitted to wear costumes on Tuesday, October 31. All costumes must adhere to the school dress code.
COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Mr. Doran shares that Macohn has been working non-stop to distribute ChromeBooks, battle tech support issues, locate student login information, train new instructional aides, and prepare the PASS logs and templates for the new school year. She is a champion!
WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Ms. Katie Williams shares that Joseph recently stopped to help a student who spilled all of their belongings in the hallway. Way to respond quickly and think of someone else, Joseph!
FINDING PATTERNS
Students in the classes of Mrs. Dornon have been working hard to identify patterns. Students are learning this skill through the use of decks of traditional playing cards. It's another great day of awesome learning opportunities at Wurtland Middle School!
HEALTH SCIENCE
Members of Mrs. Dornon's health science class have been hard at work tracking down some dangerous viruses. They have been studying transmission, symptoms, and prevention of viruses. Student groups made unique wanted posters. These viruses are criminal!

FCA
Our first official FCA meeting will be held on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. in the classroom of Mrs. Miruka Williams! Today was a “go invite your friends for Thursday” organizational meeting. Students outgrew Ms. Young's classroom quickly today! 23 students are just the beginning!
