ACADEMIC TEAM DISTRICT COMPETITION
As always, we are so incredibly proud of our Wurtland Middle School Wildcats! This past weekend, our students claimed second place in Future Problem Solving. One of our eighth-grade students, Brayden Gillum, claimed second place in mathematics.
What's the best result from the entire day?! Our Wildcats received the Sportsmanship Award at the district level.

GCSD will utilize NTI on January 21st and 22nd. The forecasted temperature is as low as 2 degrees with frostbite warnings. WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mr. Scott Bowling shares that Logan is a leader in Industrial Arts. He is always willing to learn and help others, and he is also becoming a very good woodworker. Keep up the great work, Logan! We are so proud of you!
JANUARY ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE
Students who are present each day of in-person learning throughout the remainder of the month of January will be treated to an ice cream sundae bar at the close of the month.

NTI LEARNING UPDATE - JANUARY 14, 2024
Once again, Old Man Winter has delayed our return to in-person learning. Tomorrow (1.15.25) will be another non-traditional instruction (NTI) day. While we cannot wait to see our students back in the building, we want to make sure that everyone can arrive to the building safely and return home in the same manner.
Teachers continue to post assignments to their Google Classrooms. Again, please know that learning needs will be addressed flexibly and individually when students do return to school should a student not have access to technological resources beyond the school setting. Once more, throughout the length of the day tomorrow, teachers will be monitoring their e-mail accounts, Remind accounts, and Google Classroom communications. As always, please feel free to communicate any questions or needs.

GREENUP COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM SCHEDULE
Please note the following dates for middle school volleyball open gym sessions. Each open gym session will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Musketeer Alumni Complex (MAC). Please reach out to Coach Skyler Downs with any questions.
NTI LEARNING UPDATE - JANUARY 10, 2025
As we prepare for the onset of further wintry weather, please continue to check our social media accounts for information about non-traditional instruction (NTI) days. Should NTI days extend into next week, our teachers will continue to diligently monitor their Google Classrooms, e-mail accounts, and Remind notifications.
Please know that, should your child not have access to technology, hard copies will be provided when we do return to school. We could not have anticipated the harsh winter weather pattern that we are currently experiencing in our area, but we will work diligently and demonstrate flexibility to help each of our students complete each of their tasks, whether in the NTI setting or when students do return to the building.

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Brumfield shares that Jaylynn recently helped another student to complete a Core Four task. Mrs. Brumfield notes that she was working with another student when Jaylynn jumped in to offer support. Way to be a leader, Jaylynn!
COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Mr. Nick Yancey shares that Ms. Katie Williams recently took time to help his students with door decorations for his classroom door. Mr. Yancey notes that Ms. Williams is a hard worker, even helping in classrooms beyond her own.

21C CREATIONS
In December, students in our 21st Century program spent time crafting blankets. It looks like their efforts were successful and will certainly be used throughout the winter months. Our students are always willing to tackle new challenges, and we are so incredibly proud of each of them!
NTI LEARNING UPDATE
Before the holiday break, hard copies of NTI assignments were sent home with all students; however, should a student not have his or her assignment for a particular class, he or she may check Google Classroom for a digital copy. If the student does not have access to technology at home, please know that we understand. We will address this flexibly when we return to in-person learning.
Teachers are monitoring both Google Classroom and e-mail today should students wish to submit any questions.

RANDOM ACTS OF CHRISTMAS KINDNESS
Each December, students in the classes of Mrs. Miruka Williams focus on Random Acts of Christmas Kindness. Each class period started with students noting acts of kindness they had performed throughout the day. This continued throughout the entire month of December. Each note represents one act of kindness, and Mrs. Williams shares that she is so incredibly proud of the amount of kindness that her students extended.

A SPECIAL GUEST
Jeremy Moore, the owner of Giovanni's in South Shore, recently spoke with students in Mrs. Shannon's class. Students were treated to pizza and learned about the basics of running a business. Thank you, Mr. Moore!
Due to the severe winter storm, GCSD will be closed tomorrow January 6, 2025. Please stay safe and stay home if possible. We will evaluate plans for Tuesday early tomorrow afternoon. Pray for our first responders and emergency teams assisting in this weather.
COLLEAGUE CREDIT
Officer Elliott Gollihue shares that John is a very dependable custodian who is always willing to go the extra mile to help others. John goes a little above and beyond to ensure the Wurtland Middle School chickens are fed and watered each day. He also likes to give them treats to ensure their happiness. John always is willing to do anything that is asked of him. WMS is blessed to have John and the other amazing custodians.

WILDCAT OF THE WEEK
Mrs. Baleigh Long notes that McKennly has been putting in a tremendous amount of effort in preparation for an upcoming school play. Mrs. Long adds that McKennly consistently takes on a leadership role in drama class and is always well-prepared!
